The Flow of Wealth

Most progressives and conservatives actually have one major political belief in common: they both believe that the greatest threat that faces our nation is the loss of liberty. The difference is that the conservatives believe this threat comes from Big Government, while the progressives believe this threat comes from the increasing flow of more and more wealth into the hands of fewer and fewer people. It is very alarming to us progressives that a mere one percent of the population now owns over 40 percent of the wealth in this nation. This is not just a question of fairness, or even the misery of those in the lowest percentiles; it is a concern about power. It is a concern about who controls the major news sources and the books that are published and how medical care is distributed and whether the four to eight percent of the workforce that must always be out of work will be treated well, and even how elections are decided, and on and on and on. This section of the Progressive Schoolhouse website will examine the flow of wealth in this country, and the tactics that are used in the struggle to determine its direction.
